F&L’s team prepared Construction Documents for replacing over 14,000 linear feet of 6-inch vitrified clay pipe (VCP) and 1,000 l.f. of 10-inch VCP pipe using piping bursting located primarily within backyard easements. The project included the rehabilitation or replacement of 20 manholes. Our services also included utility potholing to validate existing sanitary sewer pipe separation from water and gas utilities. For this project, F&L presented the project approach at community meetings to gather information to incorporate input from locals. Our team also developed a pre-bid requirement strategy requiring all potential bidders to tour the site with carrying staff to reduce the potential for differing site condition claims.

Freyer & Laureta, Inc. (F&L) designed and oversaw the construction of structures for the WBSD Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club Construction Observation. The team took part in the construction of the recycled water treatment plant, a sanitary sewer lift station to provide sewer for treatment, and the construction of 2 miles of a sanitary sewer force main to connect the new treatment plant with the new lift station. As part of the wastewater collection system, the West Bay Sanitary District (WBSD) owns and maintains a Flow Equalization and Resource Recovery Facility (FERRF) used for the storage and retransmission of wastewater. Located adjacent to the SF Bay, perimeter maintenance access roads around this facility are in need of upgrade to protect the facility from King Tides that are extremely close to breaching onto the site. F&L serves the WBSD in designing and permitting, coordinating efforts with various stakeholders. Improvements to the maintenance roads require sheetpiles and raising the grades above the 100-year FEMA Floodplain as well as accounting for sea level rise to keep the facility operating even during the 100 year storm event. This helps to safeguard against SSOs onsite. The project also includes a living shoreline to stabilize the northeastern edge, restore the shoreline, increase resiliency to rising sea levels and create habitat.

F&L is leading the planning and design of the infrastructure improvements to support the University of California, San Francisco’s (UCSF’s) redevelopment of the northern portion of the Mission Bay Campus, referred to as the 2nd Parcel. The infrastructure improvements will connect the northern portion of the Mission Bay Campus to the adjacent Mission Bay redevelopment area. The infrastructure improvements will support the remaining developable parcels as well as support the relocated Childcare space and UCSF campus shuttles. F&L is the engineering design lead for:
F&L prepared construction documents for the 25th Avenue Sanitary Relief Line Project to install 24-inch and 30-inch wet weather relief pipelines within both Caltrans and Caltrain’s rights of way. The project involved a combination of open trench and trenchless construction methods. The project area is an active commercial district and required close coordination with the business owners to establish temporary parking for customers and develop detailed traffic control strategies to address short term impacts to commuters. F&L is the lead site civil engineer for the proposed Front of Plant Improvements. We are working closely with Silicon Valley Clean Water (SVCW) and the larger Front of Plant planning and design team for the project that is anticipated to include new influent pump station, new headworks and screening facility, and flow equalization facilities. F&L is the lead design engineer for the proposed Park P3 project within the Mission Bay Development District. The project includes incorporation of low impact development (LID) stormwater treatment facilities, multi-model paths, shoreline stabilization, and creating accessible open space. F&L is the lead engineer for the City of Pacifica’s Wet Weather Flow Equalization Basin Project, which includes a 2.1 million gallon buried concrete basin and 2,400 linear feet of 24-inch sanitary sewer gravity conveyance in order to eliminate capacity related sanitary sewer overflows. The new buried concrete basin will be installed under the existing Pacifica Community Center Parking Lot, which will be restored to full use. The conveyance piping is being installed with a combination of open trench and trenchless methods within both public rights of way and public utility easements. F&L’s services include:
1000 Channel Street Partners is constructing multi-family, multi-use residential project consisting of a 16-story tower and a six story tower. The ground floor will have retail and restaurant tenants. The two towers have a common podium area at the fourth level that incorporates stormwater treatment facilities in compliance with Stormwater Ordinance.
The site is bounded by a proposed park on the north and a future hotel on the southeast with the structure being built to the back of walk on Third Street, Fourth Street, and Channel. The arrangement of site utilities to minimize conflict with existing public infrastructure, including the active Muni light rail, provides challenges when siting the final utility connection points. UCB (University of California, Berkeley) is replacing Tolman Hall with a new academic office building located at 2012 Berkeley Way in Berkeley, California. The building includes UCB faculty offices for the departments of Public Health, Education, and Psychology including both classroom space as well as third party tenants. F&L’s services include:
The City of Burlingame is implementing a Storm Drain Capital Improvement Program that includes neighborhood projects focused on alleviating local drainage challenges. F&L has assisted the City with over 50 local storm drainage improvement projects that have included improvements such as the replacement of storm drainage mains, manholes, catch basins, curb and gutter, and various drainage infrastructure and street infrastructure.
F&L provided civil engineering, surveying, and mapping services for the proposed new 38-unit priory residence, Wellness/Activity building, and associated new access road and parking areas. A new perimeter access road was constructed around the north, east and south sides of the new buildings as well as a 26-space parking area.
